RE: The Right Way to Get Coached

Dear Mr. Corcodilos,

Thank you very much for writing such an in-depth, open and honest article. I have been an avid reader of your column for several years, and have applied your coaching in numerous circumstances. During a recent interview I found myself applying some key techniques I learned thanks to you and I am very happy to say they worked!

After being laid off on August 22, 2001, I have not had good employment until now. On June 1st of this year I started with a great company and am absolutely thrilled to be here. The people are friendly, the work is diverse, the benefits are good, and I feel I am in the right place.

There is a particular senior project manager here I am considering asking to be my mentor. I realize now that I didn't support some of my best coaches like I should have. I was given the names of some very qualified people, and since their companies used technology with which I am not at all familiar, I did not always make contact. I realize now that I made a mistake each time. I still have a lot to learn, Mr. Corcodilos, but I am making progress. Thanks to you, and others, things are finally getting better!

Sincerely,

Scott D. Basinger
